Mr. Gerry Eckford graduated with a BA from the U.B.C. in 1974 and received his BLA from the University of Oregon in 1983. He became a member of the BCSLA in 1987 and served on its Board of Directors from 1989 to 1990 and as Registrar from 1990 to 1997.
In 1992, Gerry became the first BCSLA representative to the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards. He was elected by CLARB Region 5 as Regional Director in 1995 and as National Treasurer in 2000. Gerry has also served on numerous Urban Design Panels in the Vancouver area and has taught at UBC.
Throughout his service, in both the BCSLA and CLARB, Gerry has been an advocate for the advancement of our profession both in Canada and internationally. His focus with CLARB was to ensure that the LARE examination fairly represented the profession as practiced in Canada. Gerry continues his involvement with CLARB on the Governance Committee and as exam grader. The BCSLA honored him with the president's award in 1996 and the Exceptional Contribution Award in 2001.
As a design professional, Gerry is the principal of Eckford & Associates Landscape Architecture Inc., a professional team providing landscape architectural services on projects ranging from child care to health care, from urban plazas to stream revitalization. His designs have received numerous awards.
