Mr. David Mitchel graduated from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 1972. After gaining experience with Dan Matsushita & Associates, he completed the BCSLA registration examination and obtained membership in the BCSLA and CSLA in 1977.
He began professional practice as principal of JD Mitchell & Associates Ltd. and in 1982 formed a partnership now known as DMG Landscape Architects. DMG has won numerous awards over the years, including five CSLA Design Awards.
David has been a Director, Registrar/Executive Director and President of the BCSLA. As it’s Past President, he served two years on the CSLA Board of Governors. In 1998, he was acclaimed President Elect and served as CSLA President in 1999. He was instrumental in finalizing agreements between CSLA and ASLA to facilitate this Montreal joint meeting. David has had a long term role as BCSLA Chair of the Landscape Standards Joint Committee with the BC Landscape & Nursery Trades Association to publish the BC Landscape Standard. The first edition was published in 1983 and the sixth in 2001. This document won a CSLA Award.
His community activities include terms as President of the Burnaby Art Gallery, service on the Burnaby Heritage Commission, and participation on various Advisory Design Panels and landscape industry committees.
