Despite celebrating the 90th anniversary of the CSLA in 2024, landscape architecture remains a relatively young and constantly evolving field. Whether technological, environmental or societal, there is an abundance of change to which landscape architects must adapt. As professionals pivot and seek solutions to emerging challenges, how is landscape architecture education adapting to equip the next generation of practitioners with necessary skills and knowledge?

The Winter 2024 issue of Landscapes | Paysages is unique in that our guest editors are students. As a result, we want to delve into landscape architecture education and hear directly from students, educators and researchers about how they are addressing changes in the field, where they see the greatest needs, and how they are moving forward. What does the future of landscape architecture education look like? What is working well and what needs to change? How are students, professors and researchers innovating and rising to meet the future of landscape architecture in a proactive manner? Let’s explore the fields of sustainability, pedagogy, research, technology, advocacy… Anything that concerns the future of landscape architecture education is within the scope of this issue!

The three overarching themes for this issue are education, innovation and advocacy. Here are some questions to consider as you prepare your submission:

  • What issues are most important to you as a student, educator, researcher or practitioner?
  • How is your workplace or place of study addressing these issues? How could these efforts be improved?
  • How are you and your colleagues integrating advocacy into your study, research, pedagogy, or practice?
  • How are you and your colleagues bringing innovation into pedagogy or practice?
  • What recent changes do you perceive in pedagogy and practice?
  • What further changes would be beneficial?
  • As you embark on your professional career, what values will guide you? What do you hope to achieve?
