The Victoria Park Subway Station Green Roof and Landscape sets a high standard for excellence in green roof design and a precedent for future Toronto Transit Commission green roofs. Responding to contextual challenges and the need for a light weight, low maintenance design approach, the green roof consists of a 75mm pre-vegetated module that allowed for easy installation and contributed to an instant visual impact, setting a standard for efficient, impactful green roof design. The design not only enhances the aesthetic beauty and sense of place at Victoria Park Station, but contributes to acoustic buffering in the station, diverts 300,000 gallons of stormwater from the sewer system annually, and strengthens biodiversity on site. The green roof and landscape represent significant contributions to the ongoing realization of the surrounding neighbourhood by creating a beautiful, welcoming, and safe public space for area residents.
