Purpose of the Ravine Strategy

Conceptual framework for thinking about ravines that builds from the bottom up.

The various City of Toronto divisions and other agencies and interests involved in management of Toronto's ravines.

Overview of stakeholders that need to work together to protect and enhance Toronto's ravines.

The overlapping layers of regulations and policies that, combined, protect Toronto's ravines.

The Ravine Strategy was developed around five guiding principles - Protect, Invest, Connect, Partner and Celebrate.

All actions in ravines should be guided by the overarching principle of Protect.

Ravines support biodiversity - we must protect these spaces by maintaining and improving their ecological health.

Managing the multiple pressures on ravines requires ongoing investment.

Leverage planned capital investments to restore native vegetation, remove invasive species.

Ravines are great opportunities to connect with nature and the city's rich history.

We must find opportunities to connect with these spaces in a safe and sustainable way.

Toronto Ravine Strategy

City of Toronto

Toronto's Ravine Strategy is the first comprehensive, intentional and coordinated vision and strategy for the 11,000 hectare ravine system. It will align efforts and investments across disciplines for greater impact to achieve a bold vision for these extraordinary places so they can be enjoyed for decades to come.
