The design of Square Frères-Charon fosters the notion that it is possible to create areas steeped in civic mindfulness by modelling from the onset the very spirit of the definition of a public space: intended for everyone, community oriented and open to all.
The project is innovative with an approach that blends the skills of a multidisciplinary team and guarantees participation of the average city dweller through use of new communication technologies, including the Internet.
Square Frères-Charon offers a contrast to the city through wet grasslands and provides city dwellers with a better understanding of their geographical and historical environments.
The project has developed a simple, refined and minimalist architectural language that embraces the grasslands’ metaphorical poetry expressed through vegetation, light and the seasonal cycle.
