The bridge gap as an installation was innovative. It was interesting that the gap was deemed relevant and important enough to be considered, designed and constructed. This project showed excellence in the craft of landscape architecture and gives inspiration for many similar urban situations by taking a left over, residual space and giving it purpose. It is considered of national significance because of its appeal as a paradigm for highway flyovers across the country.
This public open space revitalizes the utilized space under the Cambie Street bridge and creates a portal between the emerging Cambie Street corridor and the SEFC waterfront neighbourhood. In response to the challenging environment, the design provides simple yet powerful design solutions that respond to the conditions, and establish a legible narrative. Each element distills an aspect of the site's microclimate, history, and location within the City. Overall, the landscape is the binding agent that unifies the engineering, architecture, and public art elements into a highly valued and unified public space.
