Restoration plan and commemoration for a public square
Dorchester Square and Place du Canada, formerly Dominion Square, form a coherent whole landscape from a planning dating back to 1872. Honourable Witness Golden Square Mile, Dominion Square represents the splendor of the nineteenth and the quintessential Victorian squares Montreal . For over a century, it is the heart of the modern city of Montreal.
The project is a redevelopment and development falling within the continuity of the urban and landscape history of the Dominion Square. In addition to continuing ambition and ideational magnitude being associated to it since its original conception, the draft urban design wishes expand the square and the square, improve reputation, attractiveness and livability of this unique site .
The development project is to reinterpret the formal and picturesque landscape drawings and design a new geometry of streets to bring the urban figure of the nineteenth century. The extension of the square to the north and south of the square increases plant presence and generates new attractions. Two water elements come energize, refresh and dressed the square and the square and give them a contemporary and bold bill while drawing from Montreal and historical identity of the site. Plant strategy ensures maximization of growth and sustainability of lawns and trees while preserving the archaeological resources of the old cemetery. All the elements of composition enhances the aesthetics and landscape experience and enhances the elegance and splendor of the square and the square.
