As part of the celebrations for the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City, Maison Simons offered the residents of Quebec City an imposing work of art – the Tourny Fountain, which won the gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1855. There are seven examples of this fountain around the world.
A strategic and prestigious site was chosen for the installation of the fountain, inside a central traffic circle between the Quebec Parliament Buildings and the Fortifications of the old city. The use of noble materials, a distinctive language for the street furniture and the delicacy of the details create an urban environment of great quality.
The historic fountain is accented by a series of basins and the addition of several water jets that amplify its elegance and its spectacular appearance. The careful lighting does not overpower it, but instead adds a joyful aspect.
The first project to be carried out for the celebrations for the 400th anniversary of Quebec City, the Tourny Fountain was quickly adopted by fans of the city, almost as if it had always been there!
