High Level Line

Aerial view of High Level Line - a proposed connection between Edmonton's two central cultural cores.

As part of the year of research, a group of young professionals investigated each character area along the 4km line.

The interface with the surrounding urban fabric was investigated and global precidents were considered.

After the idea was fully developed, highlevelline.com was launched as the main tool to start a public conversation.

Renderings were created that showed the potential of the line. Here, a proposed park at the north end of the bridge.

The potential throughout all seasons was considered. High Level Line would be embraced by Edmontonians all year.

On the south side, a proposed path meanders through a naturalized landscape and wetland area.

Social media was leveraged as another tool to share the proposed vision of High Level Line. Shown: Instagram

A press release was sent following the website launch. The story was picked up by print, TV, online and radio outlets.

Edmonton's Mayor, Don Iveson, loved the proposal and shared his support on his social media channels.

High Level Line hosted a well-attended Jane's Walk along the whole line in May 2018.

A launch party for High Level Line Society (non-profit) attracted influential Edmontonians including MLA Shepherd.

Press Coverage: Edmonton Journal followed up 5 months later with an indepth article about the vision and progress.

High Level Line Society

Connecting Edmonton's two cultural cores and eight central neighbourhoods, High Level Line is the re-imagination of an underutilized rail corridor through the heart of the city. This unsolicited proposal by passionate young professionals inspired a city-wide discussion about the line’s powerful potential and kick-started momentum to bring it to life.
