MESSAGE FROM THE CSLA MANAGER, ADVOCACY AND STRATEGIC AFFAIRS - HOPE PARNHAM

Dear Colleagues,

Hope ParnhamThis is an exciting time for the CSLA. We stand on a threshold of new and exciting opportunities. Our team is making plans to foster new partnerships, broaden our reach to engage in discussions on national priority issues, and increase the capacity of our committees and working groups, currently supported by our dedicated CSLA volunteer champions. My primary objective over the past two months has been to lay a foundation for building strong relationships.

Since starting in this role in May, I have had the privilege of meeting with the CSLA Board, our Committee and Working Group volunteer members, and representatives from each of our accredited landscape architecture programs from across the country. Notably, the Intersections Summit held in Saskatoon last month resulted in productive dialogue between representatives of the universities (including students), LAAC, and the CSLA Committee Chairs, where we discussed opportunities for collaboration on key issues including reconciliation, justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and climate action.

I have also participated in meetings and events with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), National Research Council of Canada (NRC), Standards Council of Canada (SCC), Parks Canada, Infrastructure Canada, Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), The Compost Council of Canada, and several provincial and regional NGOs. My goal is to ensure that these organizations recognize CSLA's keen interest in participating in discussions concerning nationally significant issues. We want to contribute to roundtable discussions, be sought after as members on technical committees, and be given the opportunity to review and provide feedback on proposed policies and programs that may impact our profession and communities across the country.

We will be reaching out for volunteers to participate in further activities and discussions based on the specific topics at hand. Please get involved by responding to our calls for volunteers, or introduce yourself to me and share the issues that matter most to you. I look forward to connecting with you in the months ahead.
